Liverpool vs Chelsea Preview

This is a game which rarely disappoints and we expect nothing different when the two teams collide on Sunday.

Liverpool have been mighty impressive in both defence and attack for much of the season, although did suffer a shock 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest on home soil.

That result may linger in the mind of Reds supporters, as Chelsea are by far the strongest side Slot’s men have faced in the Premier League this season – on paper at least.

Under Enzo Maresca, the Blues have developed into a goal-scoring machine, combining lightning-fast transition play with some devastating finishing.

Cole Palmer, Nicolas Jackson and Noni Madueke have all shone in the final third and the trio should certainly test Liverpool’s solid centre-back partnership of Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate, who will look to protect a stand-in goalkeeper following Alisson Becker’s hamstring injury.

However, the Reds’ forward line has also been in sublime form. Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota will be licking their lips at the prospect of facing a Chelsea back-line missing Wesley Fofana and Marc Cucurella through suspension.

But while the defences and attacks will have a huge say on the destination of the three points, the midfield battle will also be key.

Ryan Gravenberch and Moises Caicedo have been standout performers in the Premier League this term and neither of them can afford to lose their much-anticipated duel in this high-stakes match, where mistakes will nearly always be punished.

If Gravenberch emerges victorious, it paves the way for Trent Alexander-Arnold to get forward and feed Slot’s gifted attackers – a recipe for disaster from a Chelsea perspective.

Liverpool vs Chelsea Odds

Due to their formidable record in 2024-25 thus far, Liverpool are big favourites here at 1.59. Chelsea are priced at 4.90 to complete an Anfield upset, while the draw is temptingly priced at 4.30.

Liverpool vs Chelsea Betting Tips

Mohamed Salah to score first @ 4.90

It is rare that Salah does not deliver the goods when playing at Anfield – a stadium where he has a quite ridiculous record – and against a former club in Chelsea, the Egyptian may have even more motivation to find the back of the net. If you want to take less risk with your bet, Salah to score anytime is at 2.04.

Over 5.5 bookings @ 2.02

Chelsea are certainly no stranger to a booking this season. In their 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest last time out, five of Maresca’s players were yellow carded. In the 1-0 win at Bournemouth, six were booked. Overall, the Blues are the division leaders with 27 yellow cards in seven matches, so this looks a great bet.
