Arsenal vs Liverpool Preview

The main topic of conversation heading into the latest edition of this classic Premier League fixture is Arsenal’s injury woes.

Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, Jurrien Timber and Riccardo Calafiori are all doubts for the game, while key defender William Saliba certainly will miss out through suspension.

It leaves Arteta with some huge selection headaches ahead of a match the Gunners simply must win after suffering a 2-0 defeat at Bournemouth last weekend. Tuesday’s dull 1-0 victory over Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League did little to patch the wounds.

Beating Liverpool – fresh from a 1-0 triumph at RB Leipzig – will be anything but easy, though. Arne Slot’s side have won seven of eight Premier League games so far, conceding only three goals in the process.

And the Reds’ more measured style of play under Slot appears tailor-made for big away games, with midfield anchor Ryan Gravenberch a key figure.

However, Arsenal’s recent record in matches against the ‘Top Six’ is quite something. Arteta’s side did not suffer defeat in any of the 12 games last season, games which included a 3-1 home win over Liverpool.

An extra layer of pragmatism has allowed Arsenal to become a formidable big-match opponent and they will need to emulate past performances – such as their 1-0 success at Tottenham earlier in the campaign – to stand any chance of stopping the likes of Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz.

Salah has five goals and five assists in the Premier League this season and he will be licking his lips at the prospect of potentially facing a makeshift left-back, with Calafiori and Timber likely to be absent.

Much of Arsenal’s attacking threat will rely on the form of Kai Havertz, who will need to keep Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk occupied and bring the likes of Gabriel Martinell in to play. If Havertz cannot hit his stride, the Gunners may struggle to get past the halfway line on a consistent basis.

Arsenal vs Liverpool Odds

*All odds are subject to change

Despite recent lacklustre displays and a host of potential absentees, Arsenal are the favourites at 2.43. Liverpool are priced at 2.91, while the draw is 3.34.

Unsurprisingly, Salah is the frontrunner in the first scorer market at odds of 6.60, followed by Darwin Nunez (7.60) and fitness doubt Saka (7.80).

Arsenal vs Liverpool Betting Tips

Liverpool to win and both teams to score @ 5.00

While both teams have excelled defensively this season, we can see them each getting on the scoresheet here with so much on the line. But even with home advantage, we cannot see Arsenal claiming all three points – or even a vital point.

Leandro Trossard to score anytime @ 4.10

While Trossard’s performances since returning from international duty have not been great, he is renowned for delivering goals in big games thanks to his superb finishing ability. The Belgian is intriguingly priced at 9.40 to score first.

Bet Builder: Both teams to score, over 9.5 corners in the game and Mohamed Salah to score anytime @ 5.00

There are always corners when Arsenal play, including 11 in the recent 2-0 loss at Bournemouth. And Salah has scored eight times in 14 Premier League appearances against the Gunners, so backing him to add to that tally seems pretty sensible to us.
