Italy vs France Preview

France face the toughest of tasks to move ahead of Italy by the end of Matchday 6 in the Nations League.

Les Bleus trail Italy by three points and have an inferior goal difference (+4 compared to Italy’s +7), so will need to win convincingly at San Siro.

Deschamps’ side, who are without captain Kylian Mbappe, drew 0-0 with Israel on Thursday in what was a very disappointing display.

In contrast, Italy were mighty impressive against Belgium, with a first-half Sandro Tonali goal securing the 1-0 win and maintaining their unbeaten run.

After working magic with Napoli, manager Luciano Spalletti appears to be doing the same with the national team, instigating a new era with a host of exciting young players.

And Italy will have added confidence heading into this fixture after beating France 3-1 away from home back in September.

PSG star Bradley Barcola, who has scored 10 goals in 11 Ligue 1 appearances in 2024-25, opened the scoring in the first minute, before the Azzurri responded in style.

Strikes from Federico Dimarco, Davide Frattesi and Giacomo Raspadori secured a famous win at the Parc des Princes.

Spalletti’s high-energy playing style, which emphasises pressing and clever thinking on the ball, will be a huge test for a France side who often revert to a pragmatic approach in big games under Deschamps.

But if Barcola and Ousmane Dembele can find form on the wings, they can exploit the space left in behind by Italy’s marauding wing-backs.

All in all, it is shaping up to be a Nations League thriller in Milan!

Italy vs France Betting Tips

Nicolo Barella to score anytime @ 7.70

Inter Milan ace Barella was deployed in a more advanced role against Belgium, operating just behind striker Mateo Retegui. With his undeniable quality, we can see the midfield maestro getting himself on the scoresheet on his home ground.

Under 2.5 goals @ 1.73

This is a game in which one goal may decide the destination of the points. Defences could be on top, so look for the value in a low-scoring thriller.

Both teams to score – No @ 2.01

With that in mind, it might be worth wagering on both teams not to ripple the back of the net, especially as just one goal was scored in both teams’ previous matches combined.
