The Red Devils are 14th in the Premier League table with a negative goal difference, having suffered 12 defeats in 27 matches.
But United did pick up a crucial 3-2 win over Ipswich on Wednesday evening, which should provide some much-needed confidence for this fixture.
However, Patrick Dorgu’s red card in that match means the hosts’ left-hand side will look decidedly weaker, which is a dangerous thing against a Fulham team containing lightning-quick winger Adama Traore.
The Cottagers are enjoying a good season under the tutelage of Marco Silva, sitting ninth in the top flight and picking up four wins in the last five across all competitions – a run which includes away wins at Newcastle and, most recently, Wolves.
On their day, Fulham are a match for any side, with an array of talented attackers supported by marauding left-back Antonee Robinson, who has 10 Premier League assists this term.
All in all, the teams look fairly evenly matched, with creative spark Bruno Fernandes perhaps the key figure for both.
If the United skipper takes control of proceedings, Fulham will suffer. But if the visitors can nullify the Portuguese’s influence, a famous FA Cup away win beckons.
When these two met recently at Craven Cottage, United walked away with a 1-0 victory thanks to a second-half strike from Lisandro Martinez.
