Liverpool vs Newcastle Preview

The significance levels of this match increased tenfold for Liverpool on Tuesday evening as they crashed out of the Champions League in the last 16.

Arne Slot’s side were beaten on penalties by Paris Saint-Germain following Ousmane Dembele’s early goal at Anfield.

So hopes of multiple trophy wins rest on the Carabao Cup, with the Premier League title all but secured.

Prior to the PSG defeat, Liverpool had recorded four consecutive wins in all competitions, a run which included victories at Manchester City and over Newcastle at Anfield.

The Magpies themselves bounced back from an FA Cup exit at the hands of Brighton to beat West Ham 1-0 on the Monday Night Football and move back into the Top 6.

However, while the victory will have boosted morale, Eddie Howe knows he is without two key players for this match in Anthony Gordon (suspension) and Lewis Hall (injury).

With Liverpool set to be unable to call upon right-back pair Trent Alexander-Arnold and Conor Bradley, it is a shame for Newcastle that their first-choice left-hand side is absent.

But this is football and Howe can still call on handy replacements in Tino Livramento and Harvey Barnes, who will look to help Newcastle win a first piece of silverware since way back in 1969.

And, of course, we will also be treated to a battle between two of the Premier League’s elite marksmen in Mohamed Salah and Alexander Isak.

The fate of the game may very well lie in which world-class operator decides to show up at Wembley!

Liverpool vs Newcastle Betting Tips

First half result – Draw @ 2.35

Cup finals are often cagey affairs, regardless of whether there is a supposed gulf in class between the two sides. So we expect the scores to be level, perhaps at 0-0, when the players return to the dressing rooms at half-time.

Goals in both halves – No @ 2.25

This is another bet hinting at the fact that the first half could be tense, although it also allows for one team to score in the opening period and then preserve the lead in the latter stages. Food for thought.

Dominik Szoboszlai to score anytime @ 5.40

An interesting anytime scorer selection, but Szoboszlai has the knack of delivering big goals of late. The Hungarian netted in the 2-0 victory at the Etihad and also struck in Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Newcastle at Anfield a few weeks back.
