Chelsea vs Tottenham Football Preview
Chelsea weren’t exactly convincing in their first outing at Goodison Park, but they got over the line, and that’s all Thomas Tuchel will care about. The Blues will undoubtedly need to up their game if they are going to compete against a Spurs side that ran riot against Southampton last weekend. They will need to find a way to nullify the visiting front three.
That being said, Tuchel hasn’t had too many issues dealing with Tottenham in the past. Chelsea haven’t conceded in four games against their rivals, with their last league defeat to the North London club over three years ago.
It is not yet clear how big a loss Antonio Rudiger will be this season, but in Kalidou Koulibaly they have an ample replacement. The Senegalese international slots into an already experienced backline consisting of Thiago Silva and Cesar Azpilicueta – the three have over 1,700 combined appearances. Tuchel’s priority has always been defensive solidarity, and they have that in abundance.
Spurs will travel to Stamford Bridge having taken all three points in West London just once since the Premier League’s inception. They will be full of confidence following their drubbing of the Saints, but they will need to be at their free-flowing best to break this Chelsea team down. Remarkably, neither Harry Kane nor Son Heung-Min have been on the scoresheet in the last 12 games against this week’s opposition – something that will need to change if Spurs stand a chance on the road.
Chelsea vs Tottenham Football Odds
Chelsea are seen as slight favourites for this tie but still offer very strong odds at 6/5 – the NetBet win probability counter gives them a 40% chance of victory. Spurs are given just a 30% likelihood of winning, and you can back the visiting team at 43/20. A draw looks a tempting price at 47/20.
Chelsea vs Tottenham Betting Tips
*Odds correct at the time of publication and subject to change.
Chelsea win – 6/5
Given the recent history of this fixture, you can’t look too far past the hosts. They seem to be exempt from having to deal with the dynamic duo of Son and Kane. They weren’t the best in their 1-0 win over Everton, but we expect them to ramp things up as they welcome their bitter rivals.
Chelsea or tie and under 2.5 goals – 1/1
A strong opportunity to double your money. This covers your back if Spurs nick a point, and we just can’t see an end-to-end high scoring affair – this is Tuchel and Conte we’re talking about. Chelsea could edge it by a goal or two to nil.
Anytime goalscorer – Raheem Sterling – 5/2
Sterling did bundle the ball into the net on his debut before the linesman raised his flag. The winger looks a shrewd bit of business, but whether he has the same impact in London remains to be seen. His class is undeniable however, and we can see him converting in this cracking match-up.
