Everton vs Liverpool Football Preview
After failing to win in their first three games, Liverpool have started to turn things around with back-to-back victories. Their performance against Newcastle was far from impressive – coming just days after an emphatic 9-0 win over Bournemouth – but the injury time winner may have provided an injection of confidence that was sorely lacking.
Everton are also in the midst of a poor start to the campaign, with two defeats and three draws in their opening five fixtures. What will be worrying Lampard most is his team’s apparent inability to hold a lead. In their previous two 1-1 draws, they have squandered a lead on both occasions. The tricky start to the season continues this weekend, but the Toffees often put up a good fight on home soil.
In the last 10 Merseyside derbies at Goodison Park, Liverpool have only come away with three points twice, with the other eight ending all square. Whilst a point isn’t necessarily anything to write home about, it will be important for Everton to keep the fans on side this season, and heavy defeat to their fiercest rivals could see the atmosphere turn sour.
This fixture is far from a foregone conclusion, despite the hosts’ uninspired start to the season. They will come up against a misfiring Liverpool that have only excelled in one of their outings this campaign. NetBet’s win probability counter gives Everton just a 13% chance of victory, whilst the visitors have a 68% chance of winning. Although eight of the last 10 meetings at Goodison Park have ended in draws, a tie is given only a 19% likelihood of occurring.
Everton vs Liverpool Football Odds
Most believe Liverpool’s faltering start has come to an end and they are huge favourites at 10/27 to claim all three points. The hosts are massive underdogs at 13/2, with a draw priced at a tempting 19/5.

Bet Maker: Liverpool win, over 1.5 goals, Anthony Gordon first goalscorer – 7/1
It’s hard to look beyond a Liverpool team that might just be starting to turn the gears. They simply cannot afford to fall any further behind the likes of Manchester City and Arsenal. If anyone is going to lead the fight for Everton, it’s almost certainly going to be Gordon. He has been one of the Toffees’ only bright sparks in a terrible campaign thus far – but his efforts will likely be in vain.
Mo Salah first goalscorer – 3/1
These are cracking odds for Salah to break the deadlock, no doubt boosted due to what can only be described as a minor dip in his goalscoring exploits. He is still Jurgen Klopp’s main man, and it’s only a matter of time before he starts peppering the back of the net.
Tie without goals – 12/1
Four of the last five meetings at Goodison Park have ended all square, three of which have also ended goalless. It’s a bit of a long shot given Liverpool’s attack, but not impossible if Lampard’s team put their bodies on the line.
