Chelsea vs Arsenal Football Preview
Arsenal continue their pursuit of a first Premier League title since 2004 at Stamford Bridge this weekend. They head into the fixture off the back of a 5-0 thumping of Nottingham Forest and nine wins in their last 11 games in all competitions. The Gunners have the best away record in the league as they prepare for the short trip to West London – no team has picked up more points or conceded fewer on the road and only Leicester have scored more.
Chelsea’s steady improvement under Graham Potter came to an abrupt halt last weekend as they were hammered 4-1 by Brighton. Potter will be desperate to forget his return to the south coast, and he’ll need to raise the confidence of his players after failing to win in three league outings. However, the Blues are unbeaten in five league matches at Stamford Bridge this campaign and they’ll hope to extend that run in a huge clash with Arsenal this Sunday.
Arsenal have won back-to-back games in their London rivals’ backyard, but Chelsea have historically gotten the better of this fixture on home soil. The hosts have won six, drawn three and lost two of their 11 meetings at the Bridge in the last decade.
It remains to be seen how much of an impact the heavy defeat at Brighton will have on Chelsea, but the Arsenal camp must feel it’s the perfect time to play them. Mikel Arteta’s side will be brimming with confidence after pulverising Forest, driven by the knowledge that defeat could see Man City steal the title race initiative.
Chelsea vs Arsenal Football Odds
The odds are almost completely even. Chelsea’s (2.56) home advantage will make them favourites in many bettors’ eyes, but Arsenal (2.66) are the form team. Both teams to score is seen as inevitable (1.66), with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Gabriel Jesus tied in the odds (7.30) to break the deadlock.
Chelsea vs Arsenal Betting Tips
*Odds correct at the time of publication and subject to change.
Arsenal win and both to score – 4.90
It’s difficult to look beyond the contrast in form between these London rivals. Prior to the Brighton fixture, Chelsea had been picking up good results, but in rather unspectacular fashion. Arsenal have been blowing teams out the water. There’s a good chance Chelsea get themselves on the scoresheet, but we think they’ll be outplayed by Arteta’s men.
Gabriel Martinelli anytime goalscorer – 4.33
Martinelli could be the difference maker at Stamford Bridge. Jesus may find himself crowded out against a Chelsea back three, with Martinelli likely to find joy exploiting space behind the wing-back.
