Everton v Arsenal Preview
Things are looking pretty good over in North London. Arsenal have won three of their four opening fixtures and have continued their impressive form from last season, beating Manchester United with a last-gasp effort last time out. Everton have also carried some of last season’s form into this season, which isn’t good. After surviving last year by the skin of their teeth, it’s looking like another year of battling it out at the bottom for them.
Many people saw Sean Dyche as a shrewd appointment by the Toffees, a manager who takes no nonsense and did well with a limited squad during his tenure at Burnley. However, he has struggled to get the same sort of result on Merseyside. If he can’t do this job then who can? If things don’t improve soon then he’ll start to feel the pressure from the Everton faithful. They always make their feelings heard at Goodison Park … BOOOOOOOOO.
On the other hand, Mikel Arteta is really proving himself as a top manager. It turns out that last season was no fluke and as they continue to grow and improve. The sky could well be the limit for this young Arsenal side. The win against Manchester United had the Emirates bouncing. Mikel has improved this squad massively, but they have Champions League football to contend with this year, so player rotation will become far more of a factor than last season. However, this weekend’s trip to Everton will be a chance to continue and build on their great start.
You can’t help but feel a little sorry for Everton fans and the struggles they’ve had over the past couple of seasons. It’s the polar opposite of the good vibes Arteta is cultivating with the Gunners. However, Sean Dyche is a wiley operator and knows how to take on the big sides; we saw it time and time again with Burnley.
Arsenal will also have to deal with tired players, who are only recently back from international duty. Gabriel Magalhaes, Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli might be affected by long trips away. They will also have one eye on their opening Champions League fixture on Wednesday. Could there be an upset on the cards? The Goodison crowd will certainly hope so. If not…….BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Premier League Betting Odds
It’s no surprise Arsenal come into this one as the favourites by some distance. The in-form Gunners are 1.51 to take all three points back to London. Unsurprisingly, Arsenal to score over 2 goals is also at 1.94 as they come into this one heavy favourites. It makes grim reading for Everton fans with a win for them at long odds of 5.70 at home. They are at an even longer 10.30 to take this one 1:0 at home. The draw is at 4.33. If you offered that to an Everton fan right now, I’m sure they’d take it.
Everton had four put past them by Aston Villa, which doesn’t bode particularly well as we get ready for this one. I’m sure there’ll be goals in this one with over three in the match at 2.00. Gabriel Jesus is at 6.00 to open the scoring, level with Eddie Nketiah, fresh back from his international call-up. For Everton, Dominic Calvert-Lewin is top of the odds at 4.20 to grab a goal at any time in this one.
Everton vs Arsenal Betting Tips
Bet Builder: Arsenal to win, over 2.5 goals, Gabriel Jesus to score at any time @ 3.50
With Arsenal hot favourites coming into this one and in good form, they will be hoping to get into Everton and put a few goals past them. Jesus hasn’t been netting consistently in his Arsenal career, but he’s a brilliant footballer. This could be the start of a run in front of goal after a cool finish against United.
Kai Havertz to score first @ 7.70
There has been a lot of criticism surrounding Havertz at the start of his Arsenal career. He hasn’t been at his best and is yet to score in the league. However, there’s no doubt he’s a quality player and Arteta evidently rates him. Playing further up the field, he could definitely silence his critics and open the scoring in this one.
Arsenal total goals: Over 3 @ 4.25
Apologies to Everton fans reading this, it is grim. But having shifted four at Villa, with Arsenal’s quality in the final third, it could well turn out to be a Goodison Park turkey shoot. Arsenal fans will certainly hope so.
