Euro 2024 Football Preview

Euro 2024: England Tournament Preview & Odds

England manager Gareth Southgate

England head to Euro 2024 as the favourites to lift the trophy and it would be the nation’s first piece of silverware since their 1966 World Cup triumph. Gareth Southgate’s side lost in the final of Euro 2020 on penalties to Italy at Wembley but with an improved squad this time around, they are tipped to go one better in Germany.

With a plethora of English footballers shining in the Premier League and others reaching new heights at European giants, it’s no wonder the Three Lions are the talk of the town heading into the tournament – particularly after their 26-man squad was officially confirmed.

England Odds For Euro 2024

*Odds are correct at the time of publication and subject to change

Southgate’s side are the favourites to win Euro 2024, ahead of a star-studded France outfit and priced at 4.00. England are 1.40 to top their group and are 2.35 to reach the final in Berlin on July 14.

In terms of individual odds, a number of England players rank highly for the key awards. Harry Kane (6.50), Jude Bellingham (19.00) and Phil Foden (29.00) are all among the favourites for the Golden Boot.

Bellingham (10.00), Kane (12.00), Foden (13.00) and Bukayo Saka (21.00) feature in the top 10 for the Player of the Tournament, while Bellingham (2.75) is the hot favourite to be named Young Player of the Tournament.

Cole Palmer offers far better value for the youth-based accolade at 17.00, with Saka (21.00) and Trent Alexander-Arnold (21.00) each tipped to be England’s leading assister.

England’s Key Men at Euro 2024

Declan Rice

While attacking stars such as Bellingham, Foden, Saka and Palmer are the headline grabbers going into the tournament, Rice is probably the only England player who is irreplaceable.

There is no one else in the squad who can replicate his quality at the base of midfield, with his first season at Arsenal turning him into more of an all-round package ahead of the Euros.

Rice is priced at a tempting 31.00 to be named Player of the Tournament.

Harry Kane

As previously mentioned, England are blessed with a number of brilliant attack-minded players – but none of them are quite at Kane’s level.

The Bayern Munich star is arguably the best striker in the world and it’s not just because he ripples the back of the net with frightening regularity.

Unlike most centre forwards, Kane possesses the passing range of an elite-level playmaker, so England fans will look to their skipper for both goals and creativity.

Kane is 25.00 to finish as the player with the most assists at Euro 2024.

England Players to Watch Out For

Kobbie Mainoo

Mainoo’s debut season in Manchester United’s senior setup was seriously impressive, ending with him scoring in a famous FA Cup final triumph over fierce rivals Manchester City.

With England’s midfield options a bit sparse, there is a significant chance that the silky Mainoo will partner Rice in the middle of the park at times, in order to give the Three Lions more balance and control.

The 19-year-old sensation is 17.00 to win the Young Player of the Tournament.

Anthony Gordon

While Gordon is unlikely to start in Germany, despite coming off the back of a magnificent domestic campaign with Newcastle, having him as an option off the bench is a huge positive for Southgate.

Few players in Europe are faster or more direct with the ball than the ex-Everton winger, making him a potentially devastating opponent for tiring full-backs.

The Manager

Southgate’s future post-Euro 2024 is still up in the air, with his current contract set to expire in December. Even if he does win the tournament, he may opt to return to club football instead of leading the Three Lions at the 2026 World Cup.

The ex-Middlesbrough boss will go down as one of England’s best managers, having made it to at least the semi-final stage in two of the three tournaments in which he has been in charge.

England reached the quarter-finals of the 2022 World Cup under his watch too, but an Olivier Giroud header and a late penalty miss from Kane saw the Three Lions dumped out the tournament.
