The big story heading into the match is, of course, Mbappe.
He is yet to feature for Real Madrid in a competitive setting having joined pre-season training late after representing France in the semi-finals of Euro 2024.
But the ex-Paris Saint-Germain superstar is all set to feature in some capacity during Wednesday’s match in Warsaw – which is hugely exciting.
Fellow summer arrival Endrick could also play against Atalanta and Jude Bellingham is in line to return to Carlo Ancelotti’s starting XI following his exploits with England.
Real beat Chelsea 2-1 in their final pre-season encounter and will be looking to build more confidence ahead of the La Liga opener against Mallorca on the weekend.
And they will fancy their chances against an Atalanta side who will be missing several key players.
Gianluca Scamacca is out for the foreseeable future after rupturing his ACL, while Teun Koopmeiners will not be part of the squad as he pushes to leave the Serie A club before the end of the transfer window.
However, new signings Ben Godfrey and Nicolo Zaniolo may come in to the side, while Ademola Lookman will be eager to shine again on the big stage after bagging a hat-trick in the 3-0 Europa League final victory over Bayer Leverkusen in May.
All in all, it is shaping up to be an entertaining affair, although you have to feel Atalanta’s frontfoot style will play into the hands of Real’s array of stars.
The likes of Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo Goes can exploit the space left in behind by the Italian side’s almost maniacal pressing – and if Mbappe starts, the Los Blancos counterattacks will be utterly devastating.
But Atalanta proved they can mix it with the very best by beating Liverpool 3-0 at Anfield last season, so do not rule out an upset either!
