Scotland vs Portugal Preview

As previously mentioned, the Nations League has been a real struggle for Scotland, with the Tartan Army suffering three consecutive defeats to Poland, Portugal and Croatia.

However, Clarke’s side have at least scored in every single match and only lost 2-1 to both Croatia and Portugal away from home.

That should give them a little bit of confidence heading into tonight’s match, although Roberto Martinez’s visitors are a formidable opponent.

Fresh off a 3-1 win in Poland and boasting an attacking unit featuring Cristiano Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes, Bernardo Silva and Rafael Leao, Portugal will really fancy their chances of making it four wins from four.

The onus will be on skipper Andy Robertson to instil solidity in a Scottish back-line still missing a real key figure in Arsenal’s Kieran Tierney.

Can the Scots pull off an upset and emulate their famous 2-0 home win over Spain in March 2023? Well, if they are to do so, talisman Scott McTominay – who has started brilliantly at Napoli – may need to pull off some more heroics.

His Napoli colleague Billy Gilmour will also have to be on his game to try and gain some control against a Portuguese side capable of dictating the tempo of any match and creating a plethora of chances with slick, incisive attacking play.

Scotland vs Portugal Odds

*All odds are subject to change

The Scots are at 5.20 to achieve a much-needed home victory, while Portugal are the big favourites at 1.59. The draw is priced at 4.30.

Unsurprisingly, Ronaldo is the frontrunner in the first goalscorer market at odds of 3.76, with Diogo Jota next in line at 5.90.

Scotland vs Portugal Betting Tips

Portugal to win and both teams to score @ 3.03

Both of these sides have scored in every match in the Nations League thus far, a trend we can see continuing this evening. However, we cannot see Scotland’s goal(s) leading to a victory.

Bernardo Silva to score anytime @ 4.00

Manchester City ace Silva bagged a goal in the 3-1 victory over Poland and he is in typically good form. Despite the fact he often occupies a deeper role, we can see him getting on the scoresheet again at Hampden Park.
