Liverpool vs Manchester City Preview

Liverpool could open up an 11-point gap over City with a win on Super Sunday, an almost unthinkable advantage this early in the campaign.

Pep Guardiola’s side are without a win in six, losing five on the bounce in all competitions before drawing 3-3 with Feyenoord on Tuesday after going 3-0 up on home soil.

For a City side who have won four Premier League titles in a row and also claimed a Treble in recent times, this level of on-pitch ineptitude is unheard of.

In contrast, Liverpool have been nothing short of sensational under the rule of Arne Slot.

The Reds have emerged from a difficult run of matches with an excellent record, winning seven of their last eight in all competitions – including Wednesday’s dazzling 2-0 triumph over Real Madrid.

Top of the Premier League and top of the new-look Champions League table, everything points towards another victory for Slot’s men.

But this is a fixture you can never predict very easily, even with City displaying vulnerability – particularly in midfield where Rodri and Mateo Kovacic’s absences are being felt.

However, Liverpool’s more composed playing style under Slot, rather than the ‘heavy metal’ brand of football made famous by Jurgen Klopp, may help remove the element of unpredictability in terms of final result.

With Virgil van Dijk marshalling the defence, Ryan Gravenberch anchoring the midfield and Mohamed Salah leading the attack, the Reds as a unit look far more complete than any other team in Europe.

And even if Ibrahima Konate is missing through injury, you have to fancy Liverpool against a City team without a win or a clean sheet since October 26.

Liverpool vs Manchester City Betting Tips

Liverpool to win, Mohamed Salah to score anytime @ 3.40

Salah is at odds of 2.46 to score anytime, so if you want to boost that figure, combine it with a Liverpool victory using our Bet Builder feature!

Under 2.5 goals in the match @ 2.39

Previous games between these two have featured a lot of goals. But with Liverpool’s calmer – and perhaps more effective – approach to big matches, we can see a repeat of the 2-0 win over Real Madrid.

First half result – Liverpool @ 2.45

But unlike the win over Real, we predict Liverpool to grab their first goal in the opening half, as they did in the recent 2-0 victory over Aston Villa at Anfield.
